Biological Terrain Assessment
Dr. Marie uses the word ‘terrain’ to describe the body’s internal ecosystem. The human body – especially the digestive system – is replete with a variety of microorganisms – bacteria, viruses, yeast, and even parasites. Healthy individuals who are equipped with an optimally functioning bowel and well-regulated immune system may never become aware of the presence of these microorganisms because their body maintains them in a proper balance.
However, in many cases, is extremely common for individuals to experience an overgrowth of one or more of these microbes in many different organ systems. We live in an extremely toxic time, our food is significantly nutritionally depleted, and we are under extreme stress. Our digestive systems become too weak to ward off infections, and our altered digestive flora further imbalances our internal terrain.
Many are familiar with the popularized diagnosis of candidiasis – an overgrowth of candida throughout the body that causes symptoms of fatigue, digestive distress, hormonal imbalance, and even depression. In addition to candida, overgrowth of other chronic sub-acute infections with viruses, parasites and bacteria have been linked to chronic illnesses ranging from chronic fatigue to autoimmune illnesses.
Conventional laboratory methods fail to pick up on these infections as these organisms earn their living by ‘hiding’ from the immune system. In addition, sick individuals may not have immune systems strong enough to even create antibodies to these infections. Insufficient antibodies leads to false negative lab results – as seen in chronic Lyme’s disease which reportedly has a 50% detection rate.1
For this reason, Dr. Rodriguez utilizes auricular medicine – a form of bio-energetic testing – to assess an individual’s microbial and toxic burden. She then utilizes the same method to select remedies best suited to treat the individual’s microbial and toxic burden. Individuals often report a significant improvement in energy after a few treatments employing this method.
